Diane Pirzada’s talk to the Soledad Rotarians and guests about her six-year project that was her calling and purpose, brought out emotions and tears that have been hidden away for years in the hearts of U.S. Veterans.
There wasn’t a person in the room who was not affected by the story told by Pirzada, a mother of three from Lockwood.
She began by saying, “I was in a bad marriage and was seeking God. Friends in Lockwood invited me to a Valentines Sweetheart Dance and I wanted to wear a World War II nurses uniform. One week before the dance I still didn’t have the costume, so I went to Monterey and looked for a uniform in antique stores. Some older ladies overheard me and suggested I go to Cannery Row to the Antique Mall.”
